Trichinae Certification Program
The Trichinae Certification Program is a pre-harvest pork safety program that will provide documentation of swine management practices which minimize risk of exposure of swine to the zoonotic parasite Trichinella spiralis. This voluntary program will establish a system under which pork production facilities that follow trichinae good production practices can be certified as trichinae-safe. This program is being pilot tested on pork production sites and in pork processing facilities in the Midwest. The completion of this pilot testing will lead into implementation of the voluntary program in the U.S. in October 2002.
